Chip Kidd & uncertainty
Chip Kidd.
You’ll either know immediately who he is or have no idea whatsoever.
So for those of us in the later category, let me introduce him. Chip Kidd is the uber-master of book cover design.
You can see a collection of his most famous covers in Chip Kidd: Book One, but I can point you now to this one and this one and also this one as personal favourites. Oh, and this one too.
Here’s a link to a commencement speech he gave which he titled “Embracing Your Uncertainty.” I think it’s right up there with Steve Jobs’ better known speech.

And that is what you all have now. Uncertainty. It is generally regarded as a perilous thing, an uncomfortable state. But I’m here to tell you, it’s more than simply not knowing, it’s a challenge. And I challenge you to face it. Embrace it. And use it, as fuel.

If you take ONE thing away with you from today, besides your diploma, let it be this:
NOW IS NOT, THE TIME, TO STOP.
Now is not the time to stop.
That is a clarion call for Great Work.
