What’s the secret of success? (Malcolm Gladwell knows)

It doesn’t seem to be talent.

It doesn’t seem to be IQ.

It could just be about which month you were born in.

And whether you’ve got a decade or so to invest in something you care about.

(That’s good news.  It means that Great Work isn’t just for the lucky few).

Here’s a short interview with Gladwell about his soon-to-be-out book, Outliers.

  1. How Uncertainty fuels success
  2. The secret shortcut to expertise.
  3. How do you measure success?
  4. Laurence Haughton, Success in Business
  5. Why grinding matters (or how David can beat Goliath)

Love the interview with Malcolm Gladwell. It reinforces my sense that time is the primary constant in becoming truly independent, and therefore truly successful. You have to put in the time… its a commitment there is no way of getting around.

  3. Thanks for this Michael. I love myth busting of the high achievement phenomena. Sometimes it’s just about grinding hard work, day after day. And I’ve learned that while putting in the time is important, if it’s not against the most valuable outcome or the most valuable input to your long term success, it can be on a relative basis a waste of time. Good but not great.
