Great Work Interviews: The Four Fab Author Retrospective

Follow Michael Bungay Stanier on Twitter

The Great Work Interview series has been running for a couple of months now, and I wanted to just look back and highlight some of the very cool people with whom I’ve chatted. I’ve picked four authors and thought leaders for this retrospective…

David Allen

David Allen is of course the world’s productivity guru, author of Getting Things Done. One of the things that’s delightful about David is he wears the mantle of guru so graciously and lightly – and with a great sense of humour. I’m David’s Creativity Questions Coach (or somesuch title) on this membership site, so it’s fun to turn the tables and interview him for once.

Marshall Goldsmith

Marshall Goldsmith is one of the preeminent coaches and authors in the world. And you know what? He’s also amazingly generous, laid-back and self-deprecating too – I’m picking up a trend here. I saw Marshall last week at the ASTD Conference, and as ever he greeted me with his signature line “life is good.” Indeed it is, and so is this interview.

Chris Guillebeau

Chris Guillebeau is a rebel. An ethical, generous, funny and wise one. His two manifestos should be required reading for anyone looking to shape an authentic life of meaning – which would be all of us then. Chris is younger than most of my interviewees (in his 30s), well on the way to visiting every country in the world, and a great guy.

Gay Hendricks

Gay Hendricks is something of a giant in the world of self-development. His latest book – The Big Leap – is a beauty, my favorite of all of his so far. It helps address what happens when you bump up against the top-end of your own limitations. You can see already that’s right on the mark for anyone thinking about doing Great Work.

But wait, there’s more…

If you want more, there are also interviews with Michael Port, Guy Kawasaki, Bill Jensen, Eddie Erlandson, all riffing on what it takes to do more Great Work (and that’s just me name dropping the more high-profile writers and thinkers!)
