“Can you see anything?” (Great Work quote)

tutankhamun-golden-maskLord Carnavon: Can you see anything?

Howard Carter: Yes, wonderful things.

It must have been quite the moment in 1922 when Howard Carter first peered through a small crack into the antechamber of King Tutankhamun’s tomb.

I do love this exchange between Carter and his sponsor, Lord Carnavon. You can almost hear the amazement and astonishment and excitement in Carter’s voice.

Occasionally, just occasionally, I’m smart enough to stop the rush, step away from my own busywork, and take a look around at my world and my life.

And lo and behold, I too see wonderful things.

If there were two things you’d point to as amazing in your life now – what would they be?

  1. “This is the strangest life I’ve ever known” (Great Work quote)
  2. “…dragons can be beaten” (Great Work quote)
  3. “…uncertainty, confusion, error, and wild and fierce fanaticism” (Great Work quote)
  4. “The willows submits to the wind and prospers until…” (Great Work quote)
  5. “…when I wanted to say ‘No’ and said ‘Yes.’” (Great Work quote)

    1) That the things I am doing are GROWING, and
    2) That the things I am doing are IMPACTING others

  2. Yesterday was a long day on the road (client meeting, speaking engagement, etc.). I took some time to wander over to the beach, walked over to the pier, and just sat there. Staring at the sunset, phone off (on silent). Enjoying the quietness and peacefulness of it all. It was amazing and refreshing.

Being an entrepreneur (a business owner wherein you wear all the hats), it can be a roller-coaster at times. Nevertheless, the client “aha’s” when they learn something new and when you achieve growth together brings a sense of accomplishment and well, it makes you feel good for what you do.

Ricardo – great comment after what sounds like a pretty great day.

  4. Eduard says:

“Do you mean besides having fun? Besides learning that the world has always spun in the palm of your hand? Besides bicycles, long walks, and hot chocolate? Besides holding hands, giving hugs, and drying tears? Besides having a dream and making it come true? Besides February, Fridays, and Polar Bears? Besides witnessing miracles that only you are privy to? Besides sunrises, sunsets, and every rare and fleeting moment in between?” The Universe
