Unpicking the Secrets of Great Work

Here’s a particularly fun conversation I had with Chris Taylor, founder of Actionable Books.

This is a great series, and I’d encourage you to check out the other interviews with the high-falutin’ company I  now share: Dan Pink, Dan Heath, Seth Godin, Sir Ken Robinson and others. (In fact, there’s a pretty strong overlap between Chris’s star guests and some of my star contributors to End Malaria.)

And if you, like me, would like to squeeze more from the business books you read, you’ll want to check out Actionable Books. They do a brilliant job at turning a book from shelf bling to a tool that can better serve you and your team.

Thank you for Unpicking the Secrets of Great Work-video. Your comment that great work is a counter-cultural act really hit a chord with me. So often I feel like I am swimming against the stream. Sometimes I receive positive verbal recognition for it, although I usually see little to no remuneration for it. It’s as if I am admired from afar. I have been wrestling with this counter-cultural aspect of my work to such an extent that I have been feeling that I have been, indeed, “opening my veins and bleeding into the sand”, as you so apty put it. As expected, I was also wrestling with feelings of increasing cynicism. The greatest points I came away with were that I must have a project and just go with it.
